The Late Laborer
Matthew 20:6-7 “And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’”
Have I not worked as little as someone arriving at the eleventh hour?
Look at how others have toiled in the heat of the day for the orphans, the homeless, the sick.
Has not the Master overpaid me for my feeble work?
Look at how much work others have done and what have I done by comparison?
I know that all things are Yours, O Lord, and You can give to whomever You please.
Who am I that I should receive this day’s wage from Your hand when I have done so little for You?
I am Your unworthy late laborer.
I am undeserving of Your grace.
I only ever wanted to serve You.
I only ever wanted You, O Christ.
Nothing else.
