Worthy is the Lamb
Tribute to St. Mary Magdalene
Revelation 5:12 - “saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!’”
How could they hate You, when all You did was love them?
How could they crucify You, when all You did was offer life to them?
How could they do this to You?
I sit here near Your burial place and look on You, but it seems You are not here.
Was our offering of devotion not enough to stay their murderous hands?
The Sabbath has ended and now I come to Your burial place on the eighth day.
But You are not there?
What have You done with my Lord? Tell me where You have laid Him?
But when You say my name it strikes my soul.
As the sheep of Your pasture, I know Your voice.
I fall to my knees and wrap my arms around Your knees.
Do not bid me go, I have found You again!
How can I not cling to You?
Are You going to leave me again?
I bow my head in humble obedience to Your will.
I close my eyes and place my right hand on Your foot.
I’m struck with awe to feel the nail pierced wound.
And yet here You are, alive and triumphant.
I close my eyes and tears stream down my face.
For You are with me to the end of the age.
If You ascend, will You one day take me there?
Allow m soul to cling to You for all the days of my life.
For You have freed me and I will never leave.
For You have loved me and I possess a love I’ve never known.
For You have called me and I have answered You.
Let me hold fast to the life I lost and found anew in You.
Let me hold fast to the faith I have in You and offer hope to those who need You.
Let me hold fast to my love of You and share Your love with those who hated You.
I will tell the world that I have seen the Lord!
When my days are done and I close my eyes the final time, may I awake to still be clinging to You, Lord Jesus.
If You should try to crown me, I will cast my crown at Your nail pierced feet and say You alone are worthy.
